History of College
Cooch Behar College, Cooch Behar affiliated to the COOCH BEHAR PANCHANAN BARMA UNIVERSITY was established on 16th November 1970 at the end of Cooch Behar town with a campus area of 3.74 acres. The college got its recognition under 2f of UGC Act on 16-05-1980. Located at the fringe of Cooch Behar town, the college is housed in two imposing two storied buildings and a single storied building with a sprawling green play ground in the middle of the campus.
The college was established in 1970 at the time of Bangladesh War when one of the primary objectives of the organizers was to accommodate the victims of the Bangladesh War as the district is situated in the border of Bangladesh and Assam. Therefore, the college had the objective to expand the facility of higher education for the people living in the remote areas of the district and the adjoining areas. This was very much in tune of the national policy to spread the facility to every nook and corner of the nation. Since inception, the college has been running Arts and Commerce courses with the subject option of B.A. Honours in Philosophy and B.A. General in History, Political Science, Economics, Bengali and English and B.Com. Honours and General. Subsequently, the college has broadened the scope of mission statement to enhance the capacity of the masses and make them part of national development.
The college has introduced various subjects such as Geography, Sanskrit, Physical Education and Education of which Hons. option is available in all subjects except Physical Education and Education.From 2006 the college introduced B.B.A. course and from 2008 Science stream has been introduced with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science of which Hons. option is available in Mathematics. We completed our silver jubilee programme during 1995 with some colourful events and one international seminar was organized. Eminent academicians from different field are always involved with the college activity arena.
